A delightful adventure that has everything - and then some. The tale is an ensemble piece where a core of characters move the tale forward. The mock medieval setting is charming. The scope of the story is cinematic. Is there aught to criticise? Well, the wordy 25 minute introduction (Come back, Professor Tolkien, all is forgiven!) does take a determined listener. The literary style of the novel is also very verbose, meticulous descriptions abound, and each time a character speaks there is a substantial monologue. But it all contributes to the fullness of the novel… The story, though 200 years old, is vigorous!Beautifully read!
