In November 1910, the vessel Terra Nova left New Zealand carrying an international team of explorers led by Robert Falcon Scott, an Englishman determined to be the first man to reach the South Pole. Scott kept a detailed journal of his adventures until March 29, 1912, when he and the few remaining members of his team met their ends in a brutal blizzard. The daily progress of the expedition toward the pole is recorded in an immensely vivid and personal narrative, depicting the beauty of the Antarctic tundra, the harsh living conditions, and Scott's own desperation to beat rival explorers to the pole.
Even in his final hours, Scott continued to make entries of his observations in his journal, allowing the adventure he and his fellow explorers undertook to live on once discovered.

The big mistake here is that they’re using the same narrator for everything!! Scott’s diaries, other diaries, letters sent home from the people in the party, letters to them, press releases etc. It gets really confusing when you don’t know what it is and who’s “talking”.

Written and experienced in the face of certain death. Of Scott's bravado and courage there is no doubt. The Empire's righteousness was never questioned by him, tragically, to the detriment of the anonymous men on the voyage who did not gain glory in death. The narrator imitates the tones, values of speech sound of 100 years ago. However the rolling cadence and theatrical voice distract from the context. The exaggeratedly formal narrative tone is irritating. Did Scott intend.that his diary be a public proclamation of his service to the Empire?
